Glock 22 Disassembly - Although it's the subject of many customization books, articles, and web videos, the best resource for learning how to strip your Glock in the field is the owner's manual that came with your gun. Field stripping and disassembly are two different processes, the first separating each of the gun's functional assemblies to allow you access to its key components for cleaning, lubrication and routine maintenance. leaving a bare frame and slide.

Before you take your Glock to the field, make sure your gun is unloaded. (Check once, twice - even a third time to make sure it's empty - and there's no live ammo around your work area - before proceeding. If so. Remove it from your work area, then go back and start over. .) With the gun pointed in a safe direction and your finger off the trigger , activate the magazine release and remove the magazine, make sure it is empty and set it aside.

Then, with your finger off the trigger and the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, push up on the slide stop handle and lock the slide back with your support hand.

This allows visual and tactile inspection of the gun chamber and magazine well to ensure that the chamber is empty and that a live cartridge is not jammed between the ejector and the magazine well.

Once you are completely satisfied that the gun is empty, release the slide stop lever that allows the gun to be in battery and pull the trigger - with the gun pointed in a safe direction. NOTE: The trigger must be in its rear position before the slide can be removed.

Next, hold the gun with both hands so that your fingers are drawn to the back of the slide (behind the injection port) and curl your thumb around the backstrap. Now, just close the grip. This should cause the slide to move slightly back in your hand. Move it back about 1/10 inch. (Note: Be careful not to pull the slide too far back. Doing so will accidentally trigger the gun and prevent it from being pulled from the field.)

Then, holding the slide back, use the thumb and index finger of your free hand to pull down on both sides of the slide lock.

Now, while holding the slide lock down, release the slide, which should gently spring back and forth into its normal position inside the battery. Release the slide lock and slide the slide away from the frame.

After separating the slide and frame, set the frame aside and place the slide (face down) on your work table or hold the muzzle end of the slide in your hand.

Remove the recoil spring assembly from the barrel and set it aside. Grasp the barrel slide under the chamber and move the barrel slightly forward while lifting the end of the chamber until you can lift the barrel free from the slide.

To reassemble the gun, simply repeat the process or refer to your owner's manual. The next chapter will cover a detailed disassembly of the slide to prepare the basis for building a custom Glock.

Suppressors continue to grow in popularity, and what we saw at Shot 2023 is proof of that. I was actually going to make this an April Fool's prank tutorial because let's be honest... who can't tell the difference. Glock? Whether you think of them as "Perfection™," a durable utility tool that gets the job done, or an ugly plastic Wonder Nine brick that will never live up to the hype, Glock pistols are everywhere. What the Glock lacks in aesthetic appeal it makes up for in simplicity, low parts count and ease of adjustment. After all, there aren't many guns that can make a $10 trigger work like a Glock. Instead of creating the shortest disassembly guide in history, let's discuss Glock history and some tuning tips to make things better!

There are many, many comprehensive histories of Gaston Glock and his pistols written by people far more knowledgeable than myself. The full history of the Glock is colorful to say the least and full of misconceptions, so I definitely recommend anyone who hasn't read it to do some digging! Glock himself is an interesting person, although not entirely responsible for the gun's design, and was even the target of a failed plot to take him down and take over the company. Rather than dive into intrigue and politics, I'm just going to summarize the timeline of Glock development and generational changes.

Generation 1: The first generation of Glocks debuted with the popular Model 17 and shortly after with the infamous video game and movie select Fire Model 18. Frame for lights or accessories. The top of the grip also lacks the prominent thumb rest on later models, but this is a more subtle difference. Internally, the first generation guns remained unchanged for three generations, except for the addition of a reinforcing pin in the locking block, making the early guns "two-pin" guns, while the later revisions became "three-pin" guns. The frame rails are shorter on first-generation pistols than on later models (leading to quick replacements due to mechanical problems), and early models were sold without captive recoil spring assemblies. Early Glock mags did not remain free and had only a partial metal lining for reinforcement.

"Gen 1" Glock 19: Although no official Gen 1 Glock 19 exists, many were produced by Glock in 1987 for submission to the ATF for approval. They were made from cut down full size Glock 17 frames with a prototype slide. and barrels, and the exact number of test samples is not really known from what I have been able to dig up.

Generation 2: Around 1988, Glock modified its smash hit Model 17 and introduced the compact Model 19 which became the gold standard in concealed carry size pistols. Several new calibers were added to the line in 1990 and '91, starting with the 10mm Auto, .45ACP and the larger .40S&W. The new generation introduced a "grenade check" on the front and back of the grip, which stuck for about 20 years. The model line expanded further with the long-slide model 17L, which would become the basis for future competition models, and the first "C" series pistols to feature compensated slides and barrels. Glock continued to upgrade their small parts, including the extractor, striker, block piston and trigger connector, in incremental increments culminating in a major warranty service upgrade for the older guns in 1991 and 92 for the latest parts. The revised 2nd generation magazine had a full metal liner and had several minor changes to the follower plate, base plate and spring over the years.

Transition: In a strange case of hybrid features, some subcompact Model 26 pistols from 1995 to 96 can be found as a "Gen 2.5" configuration with finger slots, often with a grenade on the front strap. There is a lack of inspection. Around the same time, Glock introduced several other models in the "Gen 2.5" lineup that did not have an accessory rail but were manufactured without finger slots, including the larger-stocked Models 20 and 21. Became standard on all Glock models.

3rd Generation: From roughly 1997 to 2010, the third generation Glock became a mainstay for gun owners in America. With the sunset of the Clinton-era "assault weapons ban" in 2004 and the tremendous growth in popularity of practical shooting sports, concealed carry and home defense, the Glock has gained enormous popularity. It was this generation that established the Glock 19 as a standard carry pistol for many buyers, but Glock spent its time expanding its product line beyond its most popular models. With the end of production of the subcompact Glock 26, the company added the new .357 SIG cartridge available in three of the now standard sizes: full, compact and subcompact. In 1998, Glock introduced its first large-bore subcompact, the Glock 36 in .45ACP, and began producing dedicated competition models in the original 17L pattern.

Two distinct signs of the 3rd generation Glock are the finger slots on the front strap and the recessed thumb rest at the top of the grip. All the additional small parts updates were put into the 3rd generation gun, as were full metal lined magazines from the start, and a new hand held plastic carrying case was supplied with the gun instead of the Tupperware box of previous generations. Large-bore pistols got a branch around 2006-2007 called Short Frame, which reduced access to the trigger by narrowing the rear of the grip and reducing the famous grip hump. Both the full-size 21 and the compact 30 will be available as SF models, the latter of which
