Glock 22 Cost - I was in Detroit this week, which I try not to do often, but I always go to the local gun shops when I'm there. On its particular day, it was a rundown shop that would probably look more at home in a third world country than an urban area. The service blew me away, which is always a great sign. As soon as I was called, I started looking for the perfect gun.

They had a wide variety of options from vintage revolvers to several 5906 Smiths for sale. The trade that caught my attention the most was a Glock 22 covered in old skateboard tape. When I picked it up I found it was a Gen 3 Glock 22 with a 9mm conversion barrel that replaces the .40 S&W barrel. The Storm Lake shifter barrel was barely visible and most of the internals were new and barely used.

I started talking to the guy behind the counter about where this Glock 22 was coming from. Apparently it was from a department in Metro Detroit that bought new barrels for his older Glock 22. It was an attempt to save money on weapons in the budget. I was very surprised, but when I thought more about Detroit's financial situation, it made sense after talking to the store clerk about it.

The Glock came with tritium night sights and that's pretty much it. There was no box, no magazine or any kind of gun handle. I basically picked up a Glock 22 blank and trigger lock for $145. It's still a steal at this price even if it doesn't come with anything else. After waiting at the armory for all the paperwork to go through, I finally bought the gun. I couldn't wait to get home and get the gun out. I decided to take apart the Glock 22 on my couch to see what the insides were like. The picture and frame mostly look like maybe 500 shots have been fired through it.

The 9mm barrel looked fundamentally new compared to other components. The small dress slide at the top of the hood where it was disassembled. The link on the frame looks like it was pulled within five or six city blocks. The case has a lot of wear but nothing major. I grabbed some magazines and decided to see how this $145 glock really shot.

I was pleasantly surprised that it worked very well and I had no problems with the transfer. At the end of the day I put 250 rounds of it as a functional test. The only thing that didn't really work on the pistol were the tritium night sights. After checking them in a dark room, the tritium is worn and I should probably replace the sights with new tritium sights. It wasn't a big deal at all, but it was something worth noting.

Overall, I am very happy with my Glock 22 with the 9mm conversion barrel. The gun is like any other Glock I have ever shot but at a fraction of the price. I don't plan to change anything about it now and want to keep it stock. I think the replacement barrel gun story is great to mess around with and change when I have other glocks to change. I can't buy a Storm Lake keg with it for that price.
