Sp101 3 Inch - This example of a Ruger SP101 has a 3-inch barrel and is chambered for a .357 Magnum. I've had this every day for about 11 years and still do it occasionally. If you scan the picture, you will notice areas where dust has accumulated.
This edition of the TFB field strip series field strips the Ruger SP101. This process also works on the Ruger GP100 and Super Redhawk models. The process is very simple. You will need a flathead screwdriver and the supplied main hammer pin. If you lose that pin, a straight paper clip will suffice. Let's dig in.

First check if the room is empty. When you know the gun is safe, close the cylinder and grab the screwdriver.
Remove the grip screws and the panel should come out of the rubber grips. I like to bend the rubber grips so that the grip insert pops out.
Set the pin aside to use for a while. Slide the fat grip retaining pin out of the grip and set it aside.
When the grip retaining pin is removed, the rubber grip can be pulled out of the frame.

With the grips removed, the main assembly is visible. Tap the hammer on the back to expose the hole to insert the downgrade pin.
While holding the hammer, pull the trigger and slowly lower the hammer forward. The pin stops the entire movement of the main and allows the main assembly to disengage.
Next is the hammer retaining pin. Place the screwdriver head under the pin tab and pry it out. Then remove it from the frame.
When the hammer retaining pin is gone, the hammer will have some play. Pull the trigger slightly (but not completely) and pull the hammer up and out of the frame.

The trigger assembly is held in place by a captured spring-loaded plunger. Press the plunger in using a screwdriver. When the plunger is out of the frame, fold the assembly down.
Lightly press the back of the trigger assembly with a screwdriver or pull it with your hand. The start of the meeting was bright.
The crane and cylinder can move forward on the frame. For the SP101, the cylinder slides right on the crane. However, the GP100 has a trapped cylinder.
El Finn. Reassembly is done in reverse order. A very light coating of oil can be applied to the trigger mechanism.

Hope this helps anyone with the Ruger SP101, GP100, Redhawk and Super Redhawk models. Since this was my daily carry gun, I sometimes ran synthetic scrub pads over the bits that collected dust and grime.

This revolver has been exported to Europe and is in very good condition with some wear and tear. Equipped with black three-finger grooved grips made by Ruger or Trausch with lanyard loops. SP101 offers single action and double action. Most of these guns have European proof marks on the frame, barrel and cylinder. These marks are in different places on each gun.
Attaching directly to the trigger, Ruger's patented safety feed rod prevents accidental firing by preventing the hammer from striking the barrel without pulling the trigger. The firing pin is in the frame, a feature also common on Ruger revolvers from 1973 onwards.

Used or surplus firearms are not new and must be inspected by a qualified firearm before firing. All gun owners are responsible for gun safety. Familiarize yourself with how your firearm works before you load it. Treat all firearms as if they were loaded. Always point the muzzle so that no one gets hurt in the event of a leak. Use only factory ammunition that is in good condition and of appropriate quality. Failure to follow these rules may result in injury or death. Always lock and unload your gun when not in use to keep it out of reach of children. If you leave a loaded or unloaded gun in the hands of children or unauthorized persons and use it improperly, you may be fined or sent to jail. Firearms are dangerous and the user assumes all risks associated with the use of firearms. Read all warnings and instructions provided on the firearm or on the box before use.
The revolver I got was almost perfect except for the grip being inaccurate. The CFS team did a great job getting it right and now my Manurhin MR88 goes great with this very nice Ruger SP101. thank you!
Sp101 should say THE RANCHERS TOOL. Durability, rust resistance, accuracy. PLUS P PLUS rating traded by police. excellent reliability. A Wolfe mainspring can be installed to improve the trigger pull (not really necessary).
Got it from my FFL yesterday. When disassembled it was found to be in very good condition. No obvious holster wear, cleaned and reassembled like new! Those extra stitches are amazing! Jacques Troush made this a few years before his death. Not currently available. Buy while supplies last!
